Book Review — “The Hypnotist’s Love Story” by Liane Moriarty

Ellen is a hypnotist and she’s in love. Saskia is a stalker and she’s in love too. Unfortunately they’re both in love with Patrick. The premise is great, and I really like Liane Moriarty’s writing. However, there were just too many missed opportunities here. There was a twist or two, and at times it was spell-binding. I loved the parts in Saskia’s voice, which showed her creepy cluelessness as to just how creepy she really was. But I expected more twists. Maybe a big one. And that’s where it fell flat for me towards the end. I did enjoy it. It did keep me interested. But it left me disappointed that there wasn’t more of what I expected, which was excitement and that “Wow” moment. 3 1/2 stars.
